Roof Square Footage By Address

Can I measure a roof from Google Maps?

The good news is there is a way to measure your roof in a safe and accurate way, all from the comfort of your home: use Google Earth. With just a few clicks, you can search for any address, get a bird’s eye view of your roof, and get the roofing measurements that you need.

To find your roof’s total square footage:

  1. Measure the length and width of each plane on the roof (including dormers) then multiply length times width.
  2. Add the square footage of each of the planes together.

How do you estimate roofing?

To do this, measure the length and width of each plane on the roof, including dormers. Then, multiply length × width to get the square footage of each plane. Finally, calculate your roof’s total square footage by simply adding the square footage of each of the planes together.

Roof Size and Pitch

A new roof on a 1,000-square-foot house costs an average of $4,000 to $5,500 while the cost to replace a 3,000-square-foot home’s roof can rise to an average of $11,200 to $16,000.

What is the average price to tear off and replace a roof?

Around $12,000 to $15,000

Most homeowners can expect the average cost to tear off and replace a roof to be around $12,000 to $15,000. This price is based on a home with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a walkable roof pitch, a little roof complexity, and dimensional asphalt shingles.

Average Cost to Replace a Roof

House (& Roof**) by Square Foot Re-Roofing Cost*
1,100 (1,160) $4,200 – $6,000
1,200 (1,265) $4,500 – $6,500
1,500 (1,581) $5,500 – $8,000
1,600 (1,687) $6,000 – $8,500

CALCULATING THE AREA (TRUE)

If you want to get the exact area measurement for your roof, you can follow these steps:

  1. Divide pitch number by 12. (e.g., 4/12 = 1/3)
  2. Square your result. (1/3)² = 1/9
  3. Add 1. (1 + 1/9 = 10/9)
  4. Find square root. √(10/9) = 1.05
  5. Measure house length including overhangs.
  6. Measure house width including overhangs.
  7. Multiply length × width (e.g., 40 × 30 = 1,200 sq ft)
  8. Multiply area by pitch (e.g., 1,200 × 1.05 = 1,260 sq ft)
  9. Add 10% (gable roof) or 17% (cottage roof) for waste. Final: ~1,386 to 1,474 sq ft.
