Can I get roof measurements from Google Maps? How do you measure a roof without measuring it?

Measuring a Roof Of Blueprints?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to measuring with blueprints:

  1. Open the app and select “Measure Your Roof.”
  2. Select “Sketch My Roof.”
  3. Retrieve your blueprint image by tapping “Load,” then selecting the source of the file, i.e., your email, Dropbox, etc.
  4. Select the blueprint you wish to measure.

Roofing blueprints include:

  • Roof Type
  • Roof Materials
  • Roof Ridge Covering
  • Roof Ventilation
  • Roof Overhang
  • Roof Pitch

Creating Roof Blueprints

While it’s possible to create your own roof blueprint using software or online tools, this is a task that is often best left to the pros – especially for new roof construction.

Many roof designers and architects now create roof plans in 3-D. 3-D blueprints will provide a complete roof visualization that includes bridges, rakes, eaves, intersections, and runoff calculations for inclement weather conditions. A roof blueprint can also be used to diagram proper venting to protect a home or business from moisture buildup that can lead to mold growth.

ROOF SLOPES

Rise & Run Roof SlopeThe roof slope is defined by the rise (in inches) per 12 inches of run of the roof. For example, a “4 in 12 roof” is a roof that rises 4 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run.

The formula to find the slope of a roof is:

Slope = Total Rise/Total Run

Roof Slope = Rise (in inches)/12 (inches per foot of run)

Roof Slope = (Total Rise/Total Run) x 12
